Stick-Stretches Class Location, Date/Time, Registration, and Cost

The summer stick-stretch classes on the beach in Encinitas did have happen in 2016; the first time in many years. It's possible that the classes will again take place beginning in May or June 2017. Please let me know if you want to be added to the email list for the classes. Thank you for many great summers on the beach!

Click here if you want to be added to the e-mail list for the class.

There is no need to pre-register if you have a stick, just show up with your stick. If you don't have a stick, click here to learn how to have a stick ready for you (these instructions are near the bottom of this page). If you don't have a stick and if you haven't pre-registered, you can come anyway and have a stick for the class. I'll have extra sticks.

The following is information that is only for the classes in Encinitas:

Class Time and Class Date
The 8:00 start is so that we have more of the coolness of the summer morning for the class. Once the sun gets up a bit, it gets too hot to do the stretches. There is no scheduled date for the next class.

The class begins at 8:00 am on Saturday for people who want extra instuction. The first fifteen minutes are for learning how to stand, and how to bend and lift. These fundamentals are important for the class, and in your life. If you're arriving for the 8:00 instructions, please arrive on time.

If you know these fundamentals, then you're welcome to arrive at 8:15. If you're arriving after the instructions, know that you can arrive at any time. If you're late for the 8:15 start, come and join in the class at any time. Just begin a bit slower for your first couple of stretches.

The classes will go until 10:15. You're welcome to leave the class at any time. The class is designed for you to leave at any time. There is no need to stay until the end of class. This extended class time if for those people who want to more fully open.

Class Location
The classes are held on the beach about 150 - 200 yards north of Moonlight Beach. I'll be at the beach by 7:45 am, so look for me with a lot of sticks.

Click here to see a Google map for the location of Moonlight Beach. Moonlight Beach is the beach where Encinitas Blvd. meets the ocean. Encinitas Blvd turns into B Street as you get very close to the beach. There is a large parking lot off 3rd and "C" Street (one block south of Encinitas Blvd/B Street). There are bathrooms and showers at Moonlight Beach. Consider staying at the beach after the class.

Cost Of The Class: Donation Basis. Everyone is Welcome.
To give everyone the opportunity to take as many stick-stretch classes as they choose to take, the classes are on a donation basis. Everyone is equally welcome; whether you donate or not. I have a backpack by the sticks where you can put your donation. This can be done either before or after class. This makes your donation anonymous.

Paying For The Rattan Sticks That I Sell
The price of the rattan sticks are usually $30 for sticks that are six feet or less. Sticks that are 6'1" or more are usually $40. This includes the hollowed out tennis balls at the top of the sticks. The tennis balls by themselves are $4. I appreciate the alive feeling and firm flexibility of the rattan sticks that I sell. If you want a less costly stick, then you can make one from doweling at Home Depot.

What To Wear and What To Bring To The Class
All of the stretches are done standing. Wear appropriate clothes for stretching. Blue jeans are usually too stiff. Pants that stretch, regular shorts, or stretchy shorts (like bike riders wear) are all good choices. Bring an extra layer of clothing because it can be cooler at the beach than at your house. Bring a hat if you want to keep the sun off your face; preferably one that doesn't easily fall off when bending your head down.

Bring water and sunblock. Bring your stick; otherwise sticks will be provided. I suggest bringing pen and paper to write down a couple of stretches. If you can go home knowing very well how to do two stretches every class, then soon you'll know quite a few stick-stretches. There are about 16 stick-stretches in total.

Having A Specific (And Correct) Height Stick For You
If you want me to bring a stick that is the correct length for you, let me know how tall you are. Contact me by noon on Thursday (two days before the class) if you want me to bring a stick exactly correct for your height. Click here to send me an e-mail to let me know how tall you are.

If you contact me after noon on Thursday, I'll have a stick for you that will work (though the height may not be exactly best). The correct height of the stick is 2" to 3" taller than you are; depending on how flexible you are. One size definitely does not fit all people. I'll bring a few extra sticks. If you don't reserve a stick ahead of time, it's almost certain that there'll be a stick that you can use. So far I've always had enough sticks for everyone.

People Who Will Have A Stick For Their Height For The Classes
The following is a list of people that have asked me to bring a stick for them to use on:

If you wake up on Saturday and you feel there is a better choice for you that day, then don't come. There is no need to let me know that you won't be coming. It's not a trouble for me to bring a certain size stick for you and for you to not be at class.
