The Stick-Stretch Classes

Stick-Stretch Flow Class
The classes are designed for you to want to come many, many times. The classes are a flow class. This means that new people will have a little harder time doing the stretches compared to people who have come to the class a lot. This is normal. The first time you attend, it's all new to you. This is similar to being the new person in the yoga class. Each stretch will be held for a minimum of one minute, so there is a lot of time for instruction during each stretch. Everybody will receive instructions for each stretch.

All of the stretches are done standing. The class is not strenuous; it's not aerobically challenging. You're encouraged to stop the stretch at any time. You don't have to stay in the stretch the entire time. Some stretches may be held for two minutes. This may sound like a long time to someone new. The key is that the stick is supporting your weight, so staying in a stretch for two minutes is not difficult.

Bring Your Friends
I encourage you to come with your friends. You're much more likely to develop the habit/pattern of doing stick-stretches regularly if you can do the stretches with a friend.

Come To Class Regularly
I recommend that you come to the class often. As you repeat and repeat the class, you'll remember the stretches much better. This will make it much easier for you to continue doing the stick-stretches at home.

I've found that people need to repeatedly come to class to learn the stretches and to get into the pattern of doing the stretches.

I recommend that you try to learn only two stretches each time you attend. If you try to remember more than two stretches, you'll probably not remember any of them well. Many people have tried to remember five or six stretches only to go home and not be able to do any of the stretches well.

Your Home Stick-Stretch Routine
My usual stick-stretch routine is probably between fifteen and twenty minutes. Even just a few minutes of the two arm hang can feel so wonderful. Rarely will I do stick-stretches for forty five minutes or more. Your home stick-stretch routine can start at just five minutes. It can also continue for much longer. Don't think that each time you stretch needs to be for a long time.

Pre-Register Only If You Want Me To Bring A Stick For You
If you already have a stick, there is no need to let me know that you're coming. If you'd like me to bring a stick that is the right height for you, e-mail me and let me know your height. One stick height does not fit all people.

If you've registered for the class, there is no penalty for not showing up. If you wake up on Saturday and you feel there is a better choice for you that day, then don't come. Please e-mail as soon as you know that you won't be attending. This may open a space for another person.
